We are the proud owners of Townhouse 81 in Craigie Orchards, and have lived here continuously since 1977. We developed this website for a number of reasons ... to: and most importantly, . . . maintain the wonderful sense of community and comaraderie we have enjoyed in our earlier years. We also wish to provide a better insight into what is meant by condominium ownership and life style. After experiencing condo life here for close to 50 years, we believe many condo purchasers do not fully understand the differences between freehold ownership (a private home where the building and land belongs to the owner) and condo ownership. We hope this website "blog" will not only be interesting but useful. We dedicate it to our neighbours - Craigie Orchards' owners and residents.
Craigie Orchards is a 3.78 hectacres (9.34 acres) townhouse condominium community of 102 townhomes. The owner(s) of each townhouse has an equal 1/102nd share of the total value of the lands, common elements and facilities of Craigie Orchards. In fact, regardless of the real estate value of each individual unit, the land value of our property divided by 102 would arguably mean that we are all millionaires! Our setting is well-treed and includes a heritage oak estimated to be in excess of 250 year old. Originally an apple orchard owned by the local Craigie family, the developer (George Wimpey) retained some of the "rural" features such as the silo foundations, which have been converted into a planter just north of the children's playground. Winding paths and roads make walking an enjoyable Craigie Orchards activity. The Craigie farmhouse faced south on the ridge occupied by today's units 17 to 20. We are also very conveniently located. A short walk takes us to the north shore of Lake Ontario, where we can enjoy the public parks, fishing docks and harbour of the Port Credit River. During the summer, outdoor cafes and coffee shops can be found in the village main street (lakeshore) and a number of Mississauga's major festivals are held in Port Credit's parks and streets. Commuters find they are a short walk away from the GO Train station - no need to drive or park a car. The Queen Elizabeth Way, provides fast access to Hamilton or Toronto ... and is just a few traffic lights to the north of us. Just to the south is a small shopping area with a Tim Horton's, Carl's Pharmacy and "Cousins," a gourmet-style supermarket. To the east we are just strides away from public and high school facilities. If location is everything . . . Craigie Orchards has it all!
